David Frye is a New York artist who has shown his work in Canada, New York City and the American South. As a member of La Guilde Graphique, his Saint Helices paintings and print editions have been exhibited in Montreal and are currently on view in Long Island City.
Frye is deeply engaged in the scientific metaphors of this series. He is inspired by visual images from gravitational waves and the electromagnetic spectrum, and finds parallels in his curved edge forms as manifestations of energy, and ultraviolet light. The title ‘Saint Helices’ is play on ancient terms: Saint, from Latin ‘sanctus’ or holy, and Helices, from the Latin ‘helix’ or spiral scroll.
