Zahra Nazari (b. Hamedan, Iran) lives and works in New York City. Crossing cultures, her immigration from Iran to the USA has been a significant influence on her work. She has exhibited internationally in galleries and museums including the Bronx Museum, New York, the China Millennium Monument, Beijing, and Saba Institution, Tehran. Nazari has received Fellowships and Grants from the Bronx Museum, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, Cooper Union School of Art, and the Vermont Studio Center.
Her imagery is based on the juxtaposing of traditional Persian, Middle Eastern and Postmodern western architectural forms. Large-scale acrylic painting and installations reveal deconstructed and fragmented structures infused with themes of time, memory, erosion, and dissolution.
